Pollard vs CTG 2012

Castlepollard 1 - 10 vs CTG 0 - 19 , St Lomans Lakepoint Park, Saturday July 14th

We played Castletown Geoghegan in the final group game on Saturday evening last in St Lomans Lakepoint Park but sadly were beaten 1 -10 to 0 - 19. The first half was mainly a scrappy affair with some good passages of play as players took time to settle into the game. In this period we tended to over carry the ball and more often than not lost good possession instead of letting first time ball into our starved fullforward line. Darren McCormack got the first score of the match from a long range free which was quickly followed by 2 CTG points, 1 from play and the other from a free. By the 10th minute the sides were level at 0-3 points a piece thanks to points from Martin Egan and Andy Dermody. Pollard then went 20mins without registering another score while CTG had scored a further 6 points (1free) and amassed 9 wides .  On 30mins Ollie Devine looked to have been fouled in the square but he still managed to get his shot in on goals, while on his knees, which force an excellent save from the CTG keeper. Darren McCormack scored the resultant 65 which was quickly followed up by some good inter play between David Higgins and Andy Dermody, with Higgins scoring a point from distance.  This left Pollard 4points adrift at half time on scoreline of 0-5 to 0-9.

After the break we started well and  had a couple of half chances of goals which tested the CTG keeper further.  In the early exchanges we had scored 3points to CTGs 2 points, courtesy of points from Darren McCormack (free), Alan Devine (free) and JP Murray.  In the 20th minute a fortuitous strike from a 30m free from Darren McCormack somehow found its way to the CTG net to leave Pollard just 2 points adrift and the Pollard faithfull were hoping we could push on from here but it wasn’t to be. A further Pollard attack on goal was somehow cleared after 23mins.  In the final 10 mins CTG scored a further 6 points to our 2 points both of which came from frees from the stick of Darren McCormack.  CTG were desrving winners on scoreline Pollard  1-10 CTG 0-19.
